Mansfield Bereavement Cafe

The first Mansfield Bereavement Cafe will take place on Monday 1st July.

I have teamed up with three other Mansfield-based funeral celebrants to oragmise the first in a series of Bereavement Cafes to help people who are living with grief.

Myself, Drew Baxter, Cheryl Cooper and Wayne Swiffin, have come together to set up the events, the first of which will take place in the Flower Hall at Mansfield Crematorium between 10am and 12noon on Monday, July 1 2024.

The event will be a place where people can have a cup of tea and a cake and chat to other people who might be going through similar experiences. Not only is it a place to share thoughts, it will also help to point people in the right direction if they need specific advice and support.

Wayne Swiffin said: “All four of us are experienced in matters relating to funerals and helping people when they need it most, and, of course, we have all at times been through our own grief.

“We thought it would be a good idea to provide a space where people can talk about their own experiences, or listen to what others have to say.”

And Cheryl Cooper added: “Often, death and funerals are taboo subjects but we all believe that by talking and sharing, in a safe environment, people can help and support each other.”

The staff at the crematorium, in Derby Road, opposite West Notts College, have kindly offered to help by hosting the first event.

Haylee Stewart, Administrative Supervisor at Mansfield and District Crematorium said: “This is a wonderful idea and something that we think is needed. We are pleased to be able to support this group of celebrants in this event, which is, after all, all about helping people.”

We'd like to thank PoFfles Coffee and Cake Emporium who have very kindly offered to provide cakes for the event.
