Drinking from the Quaich.

Updated: Feb 29

There are many different elements that can be included in a wedding ceremony, these can help make it unique to you as a couple and can really reflect your journey as a couple. One of these is Drinking from the quaich.

Unity rituals normally come after the exchanging of the vows and can include family members, children or friends and there are a lot to choose from! Have a look at my previous blogs on Handfasting and Sand Ceremonies.

One that I've used a few times and is really popular is drinking from the Quaich. This is a Scottish tradition and a Quaich is a shallow cup, like the one pictured below.

A Quaich

The Quaich is filled with a drink of your choice (possible champagne, or whatever your favourite tipple is) and the couple both drink from it.

The idea is that this signifies that the couple will share all experiences from their wedding day going forward.

Couples that choose this unity ceremony tend to have their Quaich engraved with their names and wedding date as they make a lovely keepsake of the day.

If this is something you'd like to do, then you can buy one from as little as £19.99 and you can find them online or at a wedding fair.
