Why Should You Send a Save the Date Card?

Some of the couples I work with question why they should send a save the date card, it can seem like an extra expense, but it's actually a really important thing to do and can make planning your wedding a little bit easier.

Here's my reasons that you send one:

1. Advanced Notice

  • It gives guests plenty of time to plan and make necessary arrangements, such as travel, accommodation, or taking time off work.

  • This is especially crucial if your event is happening during a busy season (e.g., summer holidays or Christmas) or if you have guests traveling from out of town.

2. Securing Attendance

  • By informing guests early on, you increase the likelihood of them being able to attend.

  • The earlier they know about the event, the less likely they are to schedule conflicting plans.

3. Helps with Planning

  • For events like weddings, where vendors need to know a headcount, it helps to give a general idea of how many people might be attending.

  • Knowing who intends to come can help you plan more efficiently and helps you stick to your budget.

4. Setting the Tone

  • Save-the-date cards can offer a preview of the event's theme, formality, or style.

  • It can build excitement and set expectations for the guests, giving them a taste of what’s to come.

5. Destination Events

  • For destination weddings or events, save-the-date cards are especially important. They give guests extra time to make travel arrangements and budget for the trip.

Sending a save-the-date card can really help with the organisation and planning of your event, helping to ensure that the people you really want to be there can attend and help you celebrate.
